A Most Haunting Date Night

Have you ever seen a ghost?

If not, and you’re into that sort of thing, then stay tuned because it’s nearly Halloween and I figured that this is the best time to post about the time ol’ Husband Face whisked me away on a surprise staycation to one of the most haunted hotels in all of NOLA.

Yes, the Bourbon Orleans Hotel is just filled with ghostly plague children, eternally depressed nuns, a lingering party girl and at least one lost confederate soldier. It says so right there on the website, so you know it’s true.

We don’t get out alone much due to things like not being able to afford childcare and not trusting other people with our kids or our kids with other people. Yet once, sometimes twice a year, Nana comes to visit and Mark and I become chopped liver in the children’s eyes ( a phrase which I realized as I am typing it how horrifying a thing it would be if taken in either literal way). So we get a free night off and the kids get a slumber party with their Nana- everybody wins. I was expecting the visit, but not the hotel stay.

My husband is kinda the best.

The spirits of Art Deco haunt the lobby.

He looks hangry.

We got to stay in this balcony suite- look at all that space that I don’t have to clean!

Ah, a made bed. A relic. A phantom of my youth.

This handsome, tolerant man.

Sunset. Ghosts around here probably don’t even bother making things go bump in the night until the constant noise of Bourbon street shuts down.

Killed some time at the hotel bar. The only spirits I was really  interested in were the ones that hover over you while you slumber, so I was glad for this part of the drink menu. Check out the glassware though. SORCERY.

I would like 20 of these shadow-lace bulbs for my home.

The strange knocking from the door turned out to be a very patient lady with this tray of chocolate things. I was sorry I answered the door with a lamp raised over my head like a lunatic.

We had a nice dinner in the courtyard across the street at the  Orleans Grapevine. The manager there was pretty cool, I guess.

I like an ornate light fixture, what can I say.

Wandering the 6th, and most haunted floor, and this is what I caught on camera. Is it shitty photography? Is it a stampede of ghosts? You decide.

After spending a long time creeping around the hallways after midnight with a most unenthusiastic husband, we finally saw something inexplicable. Behold, this 100% REAL photographic evidence captured on the sixth floor! Can you believe Mark refused to do any more ghost hunting after this?! He was probably too scared- fear apparently manifests itself as annoyance with him- which is weird?

Anyway, a stay at this hotel is clearly not for the weak of heart so do at your own risk and if you do I recommend the breakfast buffet.
