Mother’s Day

There’s poetry in that girl.

“How I love you, Mommy! How I love you when I pretend you are a horse. I love you when I pretend you are a dragon flying in the bird’s sky with the turtles and rainbows. I love pretending you are crawling with the bugs in the ground. I love pretending you are a zebra, stepping in ant poop.

When she was six she asked what Mother’s Day was so I told her it’s just a day to let your Mother know you you appreciate the things she does.

Well I preciate when you give me presents.” Her eyes lit up as she went on .”And you give me the BEST birthday presents! And you give me snacks. And take care of Lily. And you give me so many kisses and I love you SO much! You’re the best Mommy ever and I will never love another mommy more than you! Your a sweet mommy and so beautiful, you are more beautiful than all of your things.”

“Shut your face-shut your WHOLE BODY” -also Lillian

Lillian too, is eloquent to the best of her ability. “ I love your big feet.” She told me while I was putting on her shoes one day. “And I love your whole face and your whole body!”

I don’t need to be pampered on Mother’s day, nor do I want to be subjected to the popular nightmare that is family brunch at a busy restaurant. This may change as everyone gets older, but for me I just want to spend time with this family I made that makes me truly happy. This year Prince Husband took the girls to the park for a while to give me a few rare, quiet hours.

I decided that I wanted to have a tea party with my girls, because when you have daughters you are promised adorable tea parties- it’s in the brochure.

According to magazines, nothing says fanciness like sandwiches- but only sandwiches that are smaller than sandwiches should be, so I made a bunch of them.  I used cookie cutters to make them seem slightly more fancy, even when they were only peanut butter and jelly for the girls.  I made cucumber sandwiches and tomato sandwiches and I made one bigger than all the rest, cut it in the shape of a heart and just filled it with meat. For the husband.

Then I went to the store and got some Discounted Because It’s Mother’s Day And The Store Needs This Stuff To Sell treats like chocolate covered strawberries, as well as some fruits and kid friendly tea.

This all took about three hours.

I spent all my gifted free time basically making lunch. That sums up motherhood fairly well I think.

DAINTY.
